Panball

Panball is a Baseball rip-off but more fun.  We play in our multi-purpose room.  It has tables and chairs set up for eating lunch.  The more clutter in the room, the more fun you will have.  Set up bases (chairs) for 3 bases (like baseball) and a home plate (a rug or something).  The "bat" is a tennis racquet with a plate duck taped to it (we prefer a Wilson T2000 racquet.  Actually, we had a pan on a stick at first, but the handle broke, so now we use the tennis racquet.)  The ball is a tennis ball wrapped in duck tape.
Split the group into two teams.  Our rules:

  • Adults always pitch.
  • Keep the game moving fast.
  • 3 outs per side.
  • If the ball hits a table and does not hit the ground, it can be grabbed and the batter is out.
  • If it bounces off a wall and hits a table and bounces and it is caught, the batter is out. (get it?)
  • The ball can be thrown at a person or a base to get them out.
  • Force out rules are good.
  • Pitchers hand.  Also, play stops when the pitcher gets the ball.
  • We have some custom rules.  We have a line on the wall that, if the ball hits above it, it is a home run.  There is a speaker cluster in the ceiling.  If it is hit, it is 10 points (nobody has ever hit it).
  • There is no out of bounds.  Ball is always in play if hit.
We make up rules as needed.  Play as many innings as you want.

  • 20-30 minutes
  • Jr. High
  • 20-50 kids
  • Keep game moving.  Pitch when people are not ready.
